The mountain known as Navachica is located in the Sierra de Almijara . This summit is considered the highest peak in the mountains for its 1,832 meters of altitude.
The route to the Navachica summit has as its starting point the Fuente del Esparto area . We are facing a route of high difficulty . Despite its difficulty, the surrounding landscape makes it worth exploring from start to finish. Through this route we will be able to contemplate the cliffs and ravines belonging to the Sierra de Almijara. On one side we will observe the valley of the Chíllar River . The valley is surrounded on one side by the peaks of Cisne, Lucero and La Maroma, while on the other side it is surrounded by the Cazadores ravine and the Cuesta del Cielo . Until we reach our destination we will contemplate mines and numerous caves. From the top of Navachica the views are incredible. If we look towards the sea we can see in the distance the towns of Motril, Nerja , Torre del Mar and even Malaga. Without leaving aside the views towards the Sierra de las Nieves.
The climb to Navachica is 18 kilometers long . From here we recommend you organize the itinerary taking into account the hours of the Sun of the day.
The itinerary has as a starting point a lane located on our right at the height of La Fuente del Esparto . A few meters away from the spring we will visualize it. This lane will lead us to a space where we can safely park our vehicle. In the event that it was necessary. From this point we enter the giant walls of the ravine. Walls made of limestone sand . As the presence of a multitude of cracks and small caves shows us. One detail to highlight is that many of these caves have traditionally been used as shelters for animals or even as dwellings.
After advancing between the walls of the ravine they begin to narrow. There comes a point where we come out onto a path. We continue forward until a wall prevents us from moving forward. At this height of the road the unevenness is very pronounced. To get around this obstacle that prevents us from moving forward, the path rises abruptly along the side wall of the gorge. We continue in a straight line until we find some mines (Mina del Uno and La Furia). From here we continue until we find a fork. In it we take the path that is on our left. In this way we left the Barranco de Cazadores that would take us to the Loma de la Encina.
After traveling around 300 meters uphill, we came across another fork. In this case, we will continue along the ravine on our right until the path prevents us from going any further. At this point we will see a very steep path on our right. Easily recognizable. We continue through them until we reach the Caños de los Caños del Rey Caves . After passing these caves, we reach a hill called Ranchillo del Viento from which we can see the top of the Navachica mountain, the Cazadores Ravine, El Almendrón and the Pinar de Lomas Llanas.
The time has come to climb the hill of the mountain to enjoy the spectacular panorama that it offers us.
