Hiking route to: Lomas del Río Chíllar from Frigiliana

The route that will take us from the heart of Frigiliana to the Lomas del Río Chíllar (Nerja) is of a very low difficulty. The length of the journey will be 5 kilometers in an estimated time of 2 and a half hours. It is an ideal route for the curious who dare to try hiking for the first time.

The starting point of the route is located in La Plaza del Ingenio de Frigiliana (located 300 meters above sea level). A few meters away from the square we can see a slope popularly known as La Cuesta del Apero. We take the downward road to the East. Through this path we will end directly in the riverbed of the Higuerón River . For this we will have traveled 400 meters down.

Once we are in the riverbed of the Higuerón River, we head north. At this point of the section we are one kilometer away from the Pozo Batán (a large water reservoir used as an irrigation system). About 300 meters away from the Pozo Batán we will see how a path ascends on the right bank of the river. Easily identifiable thanks to the signs that will serve as a guide. We take this path to end up in the highest area of the Lomas del Río Chíllar. By then we will have reached the maximum altitude point of the route (459 meters above sea level). From here we can contemplate the impressive views of the town of Nerja and most of the Sierra de Almijara Natural Park .

At the highest point of the trail we will find a detour to our left. We descend through it to the Barranco del Agujero. To continue descending until reaching the riverbed of the Higuerón River again. To return we must continue downstream until we reach the Pozo Batán. We will take the same path as on the way back to return to the streets of Frigiliana.

The drive from Frigiliana to Nerja is short. From the Plaza del Ingenio de Frigiliana to the Nerja Bus Station the journey is 12 minutes, while to the Balcón de Europa it is 15 minutes.
