The route along the path that leads us to the surroundings of the Tajo del Almendrón is totally recommended due to the spectacular landscape that surrounds it. The level of difficulty of this section is medium-high. The length to be covered is 14 kilometers with an approximate duration of 7 hours. The route is totally circular.
This hiking route that we will detail below has as its main stops the vicinity of the Tajo del Almendrón and the Barranco de Cazadores . We are facing one of the most remarkable itineraries in the Sierra de Almijara.
The Tajo del Almendrón is one of the highest peaks in Sierra de Almijara next to the peaks of Navachica, Lucero and Cuesta del Cielo. The Almendrón is 1514 meters high.
The starting point of this route is located in Nerja . Specifically in the recreational area known as El Pinarillo . We continue along the path of this area until we reach a fork. A branch on the left would lead to La Fuente del Esparto , while the branch on the right would take us to the Barranco de Cazadores. In this case we will take this last branch. At the next fork we will take the path that is on our left. To lead to the Cuesta de los Galgos or Camatocha. We start the climb with a steep slope. At about 880 meters of altitude we will visualize the valley of the Chíllar River . At this point the path turns to the right to start another climb. At 1120 meters of altitude we must appreciate the landscape that surrounds us.
The path that we must continue is less marked than the previous ones. At an altitude of 1275 meters we will find ourselves in the vicinity of the Almendrilla (the least hot spot next to the Almendrón).
We are between the valley of the Río Chíllar and the Barranco de Cazadores. From this point we can contemplate some of the best panoramic views of the Sierra del Almijara. If the day is with us, we will be able to see on the horizon the highest peaks of the African continent. Also in the distance we can see the most remarkable peaks of the Sierra de Tejeda.
At this point in the itinerary we recommend making a stop to recover energy. We resume the route at a point where the path begins to descend at the foot of La Almendrilla. After passing this terrain full of rocks from landslides from the Almendrón, we come to a crossroads. We take the path to the right that will take us to the highest of the Barranco de Cazadores. From here the descent begins by the same channel of the ravine. We follow a more comfortable and less difficult path. Once we have completely descended the ravine, we take the road towards La Fuente del Esparto. Heading south we will end in the recreational area of El Pinarillo.
