Nerja is a town characterized by its unique charm. Thanks to its coastal position and the tourist attractions it brings together. For this reason, from here we propose a tour in which you will see everything that you cannot miss if you travel for a weekend to Nerja.
The starting point of the tour is the Paseo del Balcón de Europa . This spectacular viewpoint is one of the most emblematic places in Nerja. To enrich the tour, we encourage you to explore the surroundings of the viewpoint. Surrounded by wonderful beaches. On one side you will see Calahonda Beach . To access it, you will cross the Boquete de Calahonda to lead to a paved walkway. Once on the Paseo de Calahonda, you may seem to see a familiar face. Contemplating the sea rests the statue in honor of Chanquete, one of the most popular protagonists of the Verano Azul series.
If you continue along the Calahonda promenade you will access La Caletilla Beach . On the other side of Playa Caletilla is Playa El Salón . To which you can cross on the sand if the tide is calm or access by a beautiful cobbled slope. Access to El Salón beach is easy to identify because it is close to the Church of El Salvador. Another stop we recommend is to visit the Church of El Salvador (free admission). Next to Calle Iglesia. Worthy of admiration for its floral decoration and the cobblestone floor it has.
Once you know the surroundings of the Balcón de Europa, the next proposal is to visit the urban area of Nerja. Emblematic streets such as Hernando de Carabeo . At the end of this popular road you will see two splendid viewpoints: A viewpoint towards Carabeo beach and the Bendito viewpoint with views towards Carabeillo Beach. From here you will be very close to one of the most popular beaches in Nerja: Burriana Beach . On this promenade we recommend you take a break for lunch. You can choose between numerous gastronomic options (traditional Spanish food in beach bars, or also Asian, Indian, Italian food, etc.).
For dinner we recommend you go back to the center of Nerja. Calle Gloria can be considered the gastronomic heart of the municipality. Packed with restaurants and tapas bars with a great diversity of gastronomic options.
The proposal for this day is more related to culture than the previous one. The tour would begin with a visit to the Cueva de Nerja . The journey by car from the Paseo del Balcón de Europa to the Cueva de Nerja parking area is only 10 minutes long. While the duration of the visit to the Cueva de Nerja can be approximately 50 minutes.
For lunch we recommend you stop in Maro. So you take advantage of the journey to get to know the urban area of the district of Nerja. From here we propose an alternative plan to the previous ones: A hiking route to the Torre de Maro. This is the best way to get to know the wild charm of the Maro Cliffs .
The hiking trail is of a low level of difficulty. Recommended for all audiences. Also, this route is really complete. You will get to know the autochthonous nature of the Natural Area of the Maro - Cerro Gordo Cliffs and, you will contemplate one of the many watchtowers that are still preserved on the coast of Nerja: the Torre de Maro .
The indications to correctly follow the itinerary of the route are simple. In fact, the access to the Torre de Maro is adequately signposted. At kilometer 297 of the N-340 we will see a dirt lane. We take this path from which we can contemplate on our left the many crops in the area, and on our right a beautiful pine forest. We continue along the path until we see the Torre de Maro in the distance. It should be noted that the presence of rosemary and thyme will make us enjoy this route even more. The length from the trailhead to the Torre de Maro is barely a kilometer.
For the late evening we recommend you to have dinner in the Plaza de los Cangrejos . Where you can choose between numerous restaurants. This square is located on the seafront of Playa Torrecilla . Enjoying the sea breeze from this walk is really recommended.
We promise you that this day will be very relaxing compared to the previous ones. You can start the day with a walk along Playa El Playazo (adjacent to Playa el Chucho). Both have a promenade, although the El Playazo promenade remains undeveloped. What gives it a special charm. On this beach you will find the most traditional beach bars in the town.
Throughout the afternoon you can visit the Museum of Nerja (with free admission on Sundays). Get to know other points of interest in the urban area of Nerja such as: La Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Las Angustias (less than a kilometer away from the Balcón de Europa). To end the day, we encourage you to watch the sunset from the Balcón de Europa Viewpoint.
