The Church of Our Lady of Las Maravillas is a small hermitage located on the outskirts of Nerja. Specifically in the center of Maro. Only 4 kilometers away from the Nerja Bus Station and 5 kilometers away from the Balcón de Europa . From both points, the drive is short. The indications to follow by road are as follows: You must take the Autovía del Mediterráneo (A-7) towards Almería. Once you have accessed it, you should take exit 295 under the indication Cuevas de Nerja in the direction of Maro. After crossing the town center through Maravillas street, you will come to the main square of Maro. In it you will find the Church. For this reason, the square receives its same name: Plaza de las Maravillas.

The Church of Our Lady of Las Maravillas is a small parish built in the seventeenth century. It was practically destroyed as a result of a tragic fire. After this fateful event it was completely restored in order to preserve part of its previous essence. For this reason, numerous reforms have taken place in it. Mainly highlighting the works of the year 1887 and the last one at the end of the 20th century during which the parish was reformed and expanded.

This Church is considered a work of popular architecture . Its structure has a single nave on which a splendid wooden armor rests. Its facade follows a fundamentally simple style. It has an impressive ceramic altarpiece in which the image of La Virgen de Las Maravillas is illustrated. On the façade, the presence of a small tower stands out. This tower that ends in a belfry houses the bell tower of the parish.

This Church was built in honor of the patron saint of Maro: La Virgen de Las Maravillas. The first mass celebrated in the parish took place on September 8, 1887. On the occasion of the holiday. Since then, on September 8 of each year a religious function and a procession are celebrated around the Virgin. The Maro Fair also takes place around it, which lasts for three days.
