Tradiciones Populares begins preparations for the Day of the Cross

The Councilor for Popular Traditions, Elena Gálvez, has appeared to report the start of preparations to celebrate the Day of the Cross, which will take place on May 3. "We have approved the call to participate in the 2023 Crosses and Arropías Contest, with which the City Council wants to recognize and reward the work of the Nerjeños and Mareños for maintaining this popular tradition."

In this sense, Gálvez has explained that the deadline for submitting applications will be between April 10 and 21. the call can be consulted in the already published National Grants Database.

Regarding the prizes, the amounts of which have increased slightly for this edition, they will range between 750 and 450 euros for the three best crosses, 375 to 150 euros for the three best arropías, and 225 to 110 euros for the artificial crosses. "From the Nerja City Council, we encourage the participation of entities, associations and neighbors to magnify each corner, square or street of Nerja and Maro with their crosses."
