This Wednesday the traditional Tribute Lunch to Our Elders at the Nerja Fair was held, in which the awards were presented to the Grandparents of Nerja 2023. The winners were Joaquín Alonso González, who will turn 90 on November 3 , and Dolores Godoy Platero, who is 85 years old. They are married and have been married for 62 years, in addition to 10 of dating. Both received gifts from the mayor, José Alberto Armijo; and the Councilor for Seniors and Fiesta Mayor, Elena Gálvez.
The mayor congratulated the winners, as well as the Knight and Queen of the Elders 2023, Manuel García Rojas and María del Pilar Navas Navas, also present at the event.
José Alberto Armijo announced that, for next year's Fair, there will be a second lunch or snack on Pilar Day so that all older people who wish can attend and no one will be left out due to lack of space. He also reiterated his commitment to older people ?because they deserve the full attention of our City Council.?
He also said that ?I have two clear weaknesses and priorities, people in need and the elderly,? to whom he promised to continue providing help and attention.
He thanked the presidents of the Nerjamar and Marocueva senior associations, José Villasclaras and Plácido Portillo, respectively, and the president of the Board of Directors of the Active Participation Center, Pepe del Rosal, for the work carried out, ?fundamental pillars of senior policy.? ? and who were also present at the event.
For her part, the Councilor for Seniors and Festivals, Elena Gálvez, congratulated the winners and made herself available to the seniors ?for everything they need.?
