The Junta de Andalucía, through the General Directorate of Sports Events and Facilities, has resolved to declare the Pico del Cielo Trail or Cuesta del Cielo, as it is popularly known, a Sports Use Trail. It has also been approved by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Climbing and Hiking Sports as a Sports Trail of Andalusia. These approvals are carried out after requesting it from the Nerja City Council once the signaling work has been completed, as recalled by the Councilor for the Environment, Javier Rodríguez.
The installation work of the new milestones and signs has been carried out by the company TrakRoot SCA. Among the installed markings are reflective rings along the entire route and they have been reinforced in the upper part of the trail by adhering signs to the rocks to facilitate visibility at night. Danger signs have also been placed warning of fog and the risk of falling into a vacuum.
The Pico del Cielo or Cuesta del Cielo has an elevation of 1,508 meters high. It is located 6 kilometers from the coast and has a slope of 1,200 meters.
