Nerja today said a resounding no to gender violence in the events held on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The Plenary Hall of the City Council has hosted the readings of two manifestos, one from the deputations, read by members of the Local Police, Civil Guard, Firefighters, Health Center and Justice of the Peace, and another from the FEMP, read by representatives of the women's associations of Nerja. At the event, the mayor, José Alberto Armijo, reiterated his gratitude ?to all the people, groups, associations (especially women) and institutions, for their involvement and commitment to continue working on the eradication of sexist violence,? as well as to the CIM workers, Mercedes Fuentes and Lola de Haro, for the good work they do. He also ratified his commitment to equality between men and women. After the readings of the manifestos, the singer from Nerjeña Bea Platero performed the song ?The Violet Door.? Next, all the people attending the event went to the Balcón de Europa promenade where a tribute to the victims of gender violence this year was held, an event organized by the women's associations of the municipality. One by one, all the murdered women were named, at the same time that a bouquet of flowers was placed next to lit candles. In total 52, in addition to a stuffed animal, for a minor also murdered.
