María Rodríguez Fernández, honored with the 2023 Rural Woman award

The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, and the president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol Axarquía, Jorge Martín, have today presented the Rural Women 2023 recognition to María Rodríguez Fernández, on the occasion of World Rural Women's Day, recently celebrated. Also present at the event were the Councilor for Equality, Daniel Rivas; the mayor of Río de la Miel and Cantarriján, Adolfo López, and numerous family members and friends of the honoree, who received a plaque and a bouquet of flowers.

José Alberto Armijo highlighted that María Rodríguez Fernández represents the spirit of the rural, hard-working and fighting woman to help her family move forward despite the difficulties. She added that she suffered the loss of her husband very early and assumed the responsibility of raising her three children in very difficult times, working in the fields and going to France for the grape harvest.

María, visibly moved, thanked the mayor, José Alberto Armijo, and all the people who contributed to her receiving this tribute.
