Calahonda Beach

Calahonda Beach

Calahonda beach is undoubtedly one of the most popular symbols of the town of Nerja. It may even be the most photographed beach on the Nerja coast. This is due to its excellent location . Located under the Balcón de Europa. Specifically on your left. Also very close to the Bus Station (less than a kilometer away).

For many of the residents and tourists of Nerja, Calahonda beach is one of the most charming places. Gather all the necessary ingredients to become a dream place.

This beach has one of the most beautiful pedestrian accesses in the town. We cross the famous "Boquete de Calahonda " to reach it. Crossing the Balcón de Europa on one of its sides we visualize a majestic white arch. It is there when we read the sign that tells us that there is the famous hole characteristic of this cove. From now on we can only enjoy a small cobbled walk that takes us to the sand of the cove. This walk is located under the structure of the Balcony of Europe . The impression it generates is spectacular.

From the walk we can sit down to admire the crystal clear waters of the cove. Which gives us a glimpse of the rocks on the seabed. It can even remind us of the popular Caribbean waters.

If we continue to the end of the walk we find the adjoining beach called La Caletilla .

Although it is difficult to believe you will find a familiar face in this place. You can photograph yourself next to the statue of the protagonist of the Verano Azul series. Chanquete has been honored with this sculpture recently. He does not stop enjoying the views of the sea, just as he did in the series.

This beach does not make us travel to the past solely because of the presence of Chanquete. Next to the El Salón beach, this cove is one of the few in Nerja that still preserves the essence of a fisherman's land. We find wooden boats that are still going out to sea today. Which reminds us that fishing supplied the town of Nerja since the beginning of the century.

Another of the charms of the cove has also been very photographed. Under one of the rocks we find a small white stone house. Its blue door and the flowers that surround it give the place a unique charm. Formerly the fishermen used it as a shed.

Calahonda beach is 120 meters long and 20 meters wide. Its sand is dark and its waters shallow.

It has all the essential services (hammock rental, kiosk, surveillance by lifeguards, showers, toilets ...). In addition, all the services and amenities that the center of Nerja houses are just a few steps away. You can enjoy a wide variety of both gastronomic and commercial offerings.

It is worth highlighting another of the charms that this unique cove has. If we get lost among its rocks we arrive at a set of charming coves that are called El Chorrillo. In these coves, tranquility and privacy are fully guaranteed. They receive few visitors during the year. They are truly unknown to many. In total there are three coves that you can access through the beaches of Carabeo and Calahonda. They do not present any beach service. In fact, not even in high season are they guarded.

El Chorrillo is one of the most recommended places for snorkeling. It is the ideal place to enjoy nature and tranquility.

The particular charm of this group of coves is that from it you can admire the old Paseo de los Carabineros . It is currently under restoration, but a few years ago it was possible to discover the secrets of the Nerja coast through this unique walk.
